The project is located in Santa Marinella, a coastal city of linear development with a series of uniform blocks, with no distinctive characteristics or denoting the existence of a distinctive urban center.
The competition requested we proposed ideas for a civic center that challenged us to give the city a symbolic urban space with a strong identity and, at the same time, one that would represent and bring together the social life of the city.
The proposal took shape in contrast to the uniform nature of the city by means of a simple geometry building easily recognized, one that alludes to the solid edge European town squares. This building projects itself floating above a dry plaza supported by three other buildings of different shapes and functions: the police station, the library, and the courtroom of the legislature.
In this manner, a representative place materialized from the consolidation of a highly symbolic empty space, a civic plaza bounded by a curvilinear administrative building. This building is supported on three other ones that represent the three pillars of balance and growth in every community: democracy, culture and order.
In turn, due to the fact that it is raised above the plaza, the ensemble becomes permeable to the surrounding city.
