Diaz Vélez Building

Area: 3,700 m2

Status: Built

Year: 2010

Location: Buenos Aires City, Argentina

This building is located on a high traffic vehicular corner with a strong Caballito’s neighborhood identity. While municipally is considered a building between party walls, we have formally conceived as a free volume: a prism-shaped volume flying over the corner and off the block fabric. A "mark" that accentuates this situation corner and tries to become a landmark in the area.
With regard to the organization of the floors, we have proposed two different types that are alternately stacked, creating movement on the facade. This resolution differentiates it from the typical repetitive facades. On the other side, the challenge has been to maintain a certain order and rationality in the structures and installations.
All of the volume work has been built by subtraction (openings and balconies), seeking to give synthesis and expressive power to the building.
